James' breath catches as he hears the front door and then the sharp tap-tap of shoes approaching.

He swallows hard as the door opens.

Taking a deep breath as he turns, James' heart fills with love at the sight of his wife standing framed by the hall light.

So beautiful.

They just stare at each other for a heartbeat and then another.

Before she can speak, James drops to one knee and holds his hand out to her.

His voice cracks with emotion. “Please forgive me.”

Begging with his eyes for another chance.

Praying for her to say yes.
