How long could we go on like this? How many more times could we break? How many times could we piece everything back together and expect it to hold?

I just didn't know.

We staggered from one disaster to another. The list of the dead and missing grew with each anomaly. Hart. Cutter. Abby. Connor. Danny. Sarah. How many more?

Even Becker's resignation only surprised me by how long he struggled with his guilt. I didn't try to convince him to stay.

What was the point?

We had been shut down. Now no one was left to bar the gates.
