Monday was dull and overcast, the sun barely shining on this, the shortest day of 2009. Lester knew the days would grow longer but, at the moment, this bleak midwinter day matched his mood perfectly.

His lover was on a mission above even Lester's paygrade. He didn't know if they'd be together for Christmas.

A knock had Lester's heart freezing.

A repeat knock had him reluctantly opening the door.

His heart soared at the sight of his lover.

"Lost the key." Lyle smile faded before he kissed Lester, hard. "Fuck! You thought the knock..."

"Not anymore, my little meerkat."
