Primeval Drabble: Torrid
Jul. 4th, 2023 11:18 pmTitle: Torrid
Author: knitekat
Word Count: 100
Characters: James Lester, Helen Cutter
Rating: 15
Disclaimer: Primeval belongs to Impossible Pictures. Certainly not me. Writing for fun and will replace.
A/N: For P100 prompt 843: Heat Wave. #43 in my Ice Age series and… maybe a bit sideswiping.
A/N 2: Torrid as in oppressively hot, parching, or burning, as climate, weather, or air or indeed, full of difficulty. ;)
“Helen! Stop!”
“James, we… hmm. Fine, five minutes.”
“Ten.”
“Five. We’re too near to the water hole.”
“Ah.”
“Sip that water, that’s all we have.”
“Is it always this bloody hot?”
“The Cretaceous was 5 to 10 degrees hotter than the present day.”
“Was?”
“Once global warming became rampant, heat waves became more frequent and then they never stopped. The heat became continuous and any species which couldn’t adapt died out. Once the bees became extinct, humanity died as a viable species.”
“And your plan to stop it?”
“You’ll see.”
“Helen!”
“Times up, James.”
“Do you actually have a plan?”
