I huddled behind my makeshift barrier, my heart beating like a terrified bird trapped in a cage. A siren call to the creatures which had haunted so many of my nightmares.

I smiled grimly as I recalled my gran’s words of encouragement when I’d been a child. I could only hope that third time wasn’t the charm for the predators… but I could see no way out. No hope of rescue or…

I shook my head, scattering such thoughts, and loaded the shotgun – Vera. I’d take some of the bastards with me, even if I’d break my promise to Becker.
