It was always the same. He gained a position, only to be overlooked, ignored and moved on when someone ‘better suited for the role’ appeared. Over and over and over again.

He tried so hard to fit in, to be one of ‘the boys’, but he was an introvert by nature. Bookish and quiet and not one to party.

He’s been suspicious when she’d approached, not putting it past his ‘colleagues’ to humiliate him. But she’d convinced him, that by applying for this role, he’d be a hero. Someone others would notice and like.

But he still didn’t fit in.
