Meetings with the Minister never boded well, especially after the debracle involving Helen and Christine. I'd been correct, for although the ARC would reopen under my directorship, it would be in partnership with one Philip Burton.
I called my contacts once I returned to my temporary desk in the furtherest reaches of the Home Office. One proved fruitful, Burton liked to be considered what my American friends called a 'big cheese'.
I wasn't convinced at that, but I did have to agree this whole public-private enterprise stank more than Camembert, and I knew I wouldn't find it as agreeable.
