A/N: For P100 prompt 770: Watch Your Step. Set in same ‘verse as Not Enough and follows Welcoming Warmth.


Lester tugged his collar tighter around his neck as he followed Blade along the path – trail really – made slick with persistent rain. The same damnable rain which had driven them out of the cave they’d been sheltering in when it had proven rather less than water-proof.

“Careful, sir,” Blade said as they reached a precipitous drop.

Lester bit back any retort, knowing just how dangerous any injury, let along broken bones, would be this far from any help. However, as Blade’s foot slipped and Lester grabbed his webbing, he couldn’t resist snarking, “Maybe you should watch your own step, corporal?”
