A/N: For P100 prompt 760: Off Balance. I think it makes sense, also for Lester/Nick month.


Stephen wasn’t the only one stunned into silence at Nick’s rant about his affair, acting as if he’d only just learned of it. I met Stephen’s gaze for a moment, seeing confusion and sadness, before he beat a hasty retreat behind me.

Despite that, I hoped this was still our Nick; although that hope was dashed when he began demanding to see ‘Claudia’ and grabbed me by my jacket. I could only stammer, “No idea, sorry” when I met his eyes, eyes that looked at me as a stranger rather than the lover I had woke up beside that morning.

Definitely. James is not happy. The only positive is that he will believe Nick's story.
