A/N: For the P100 Challenge 177 Hospital. Continues from Awakening and it set in my wolfverse universe (Lester's a werewolf). Thanks go to Fred for the beta, cheers.

James buried his nose against Nick, breathing his mate's scent as relief flooded through him. He struggled to maintain his composure as he blinked back the tears that threatened to spill down his face.

At least, he did until he felt Nick's hand ruffle his hair. James' breath hitched and then he began to sob, his emotions overcoming his reserve.

He could feel Nick's hand shakily stroking through his hair. He could hear Nick's weak voice as his lover tried to comfort him. His sharp ears picking up the man's croaking, “I'm sorry. I'm here, James. I'm still here.”
