Title: Running On Empty
Author: knitekat
Word Count: 100
Characters: James Lester, Helen Cutter
Rating: 15
Disclaimer: Primeval belongs to Impossible Pictures. Certainly not me. Writing for fun and will replace.
A/N: For P100 prompt 692 - Running on Empty. Part 28 of my Ice Age drabble series and follows on from Night Sky. It might be something of a sideswipe?
“I assume your plan doesn’t include being incinerated?” Lester enquired as a meteor slammed into a distant mountainside.
“Follow me!”
“I’ll take that as a no,” Lester muttered, hoping she was heading towards safety.
“Keep up!”
Lester wished he had the breath to snap back; but several weeks in hospital had sapped his endurance, and he needed every breath to keep Helen in sight.
He stumbled, falling painfully to his knees before struggling back to his feet. He glanced around, swearing breathlessly when he realised he’d lost Helen, but staggered onwards.
He had no choice if he wanted to survive.
