A/N: For P100 prompt 678: Tender is the Night. Continuation of my (unnamed) series and set after Invisible. Series started with Ice Age. Thanks go to Fred for the idea, I was blank for this prompt.


Lester woke in the quiet of the night, alert for danger.

“A private room, James,” Helen’s voice came from the darkness. “I should have known you’d talk your way into one.”

“Did you want something?” Lester enquired, “Apart from disturbing my first peaceful night’s sleep?”

“You don’t like mixing with the riff-raff?”

“Henry bloody Carson would put a snoring Triceratops to shame,” Lester muttered, struggling to sit up before eyeing the bottle in his lap. “Talisker? What are you up to?”

“Just to talk, James,” Helen patted his knee. “A truce. You need me.”

“As much as you need me?”

Nice open-ended. One wonders, like James, just what Helen is really up to!

They have to be in a series, not that I know how to fit May Day (or more likely Mayday) into it... yet (I hope).

Helen is always up to something, I think James is worried why she needs him for it.
