A/N: For P100 prompt 671: The NHS. Follows on from Aches And Pains.
Lester woke, his memory slowly returning and he prayed Helen had merely been a fevered dream, a nightmare of whatever damned malady he’d been lain low by. He struggled to rise, frowning as he glanced around the room.
“Lay back down, please.” A white uniformed nurse bustled in and Lester found himself lying on his back once more. “Your wife will be so relieved.”
Lester mumbled around the thermometer beneath his tongue.
“She’s been spending all of visiting time by your bedside.”
Lester couldn’t imagine his ex-wife… and then his eyes widened as She walked in.
“Hello, James,” Helen said.
