Nightmares woke Stephen when it was still dark, forcing him out of his flat, pounding the streets as he tried to outrun his memories. He pulled up with a wince and swore as his quads went into spasm. He swallowed as he rubbed the muscles and his fingertips encountered the mess of scars which criss-crossed his leg.

“Stephen!”

Stephen shook his head at that impossible, familiar voice, his heart aching at that remembered loss.

“Come on, Stephen, get in.”

Stephen turned at the hand on his arm, his eyes widening before he choked out, “Ryan? How?”

“Lester’s a sneaky bastard.”
