“Oh dear.” Chrissie’s tone set off all of James’ instincts; his worst fear confirmed when she continued, “It’s snowed, darling.”

James muttered “How much?” from beneath the covers. A stampede of feet answered his question and he let out a muffled groan from a misplaced knee.

“It’s snowed, daddy!”

“Has it?” James enquired before bowing to the inevitable. “Well, what are you all waiting for?”

He groaned at Chrissie’ unsympathetically chuckle. “Sooner out, sooner warmed up again.”

“You’ll complain about my cold feet.”

“I was referring to a hot shower, a cooked breakfast and, if you’re lucky, a hot toddy.”
