James took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself as he buttoned his overcoat. He offered an arm to his wife but she shook her head.

“Chrissy?” Christine’s smile had James mentally groaning, repeating it verbally when she held a mask out to him.

“We did promise the children, dear.”

The clatter of footsteps had James looking up to see his children in costume and smiled at them. “Ghoulies and ghosties and long-legged beasties.”

“We’re not long-legged beasties, daddy,” his youngest said.

“True,” James agreed. “Are we all ready?” When everyone chorused yes, he led them outside, mask firmly in place.
