“Why wouldn’t they?”
“Back home, you never promised to stay with someone. Too many chance of injuries, of sickness slowing someone down, making them easy prey for the predators or the storms.”
“Oh, Matt. This isn’t that future.”
“I know, it’s just...”
“Habits are hard to break.”
“Yes.”
“We can skip those vows if you want.”
“We can… No, James.”
“Oh.”
“No, I mean I don’t want to skip them.”
