After the ‘Leek debacle’, I had arranged for every member of staff, from current employees to new candidates, to be thoroughly vetted by specialists at MI5, or to be precise, by those specialists I trusted. People I had trusted with my life on more than one occasion, ones I had bonded with over blood and cordite.

Which was why I was currently entertaining two of them at my flat, neither happy that I had apparently ignored their advice over one Matthew Anderson.

I poured three whiskies before answering the question neither man had yet asked, “Keep your friends close, gentlemen.”
