Stephen had witnessed this enough to know what happened:

First, the slow stalk and he fell back until he was against the wall.

Secondly, defence testing and it was bloody hard not to react and give them the opportunity to drag him down.

Then the final rush when they all came for him. Something he knew he couldn’t stop but only wait for.

Stephen knew he’d die here, but better him than Nick. He saw muscles tense and braced himself for the end.

He coughed, half-blinded and deafened, as someone hauled him upright and he made out Ryan’s furious face.
