Sir James limped down the ramp from his office for the final time. He paused at the memorial, remembering the good and the bad in his time as the Director, and now it was all over.

He felt an arm thread through his and turned to accept a kiss from his lover, as grey-haired as himself.

“Time to go, James.”

Lester nodded, thankful that Lyle had survived all the anomalies had thrown at them. He pulled free for a moment to shake hands with the new Director, finally convinced he was leaving the ARC in capable hands on his retirement.
