Connor forced a cheerful smile and told Abby what she wanted to hear.
He'd been a fool, the kiss changed nothing.
It had only been a reward for not telling on her brother.
Not what he had hoped, and still hoped, it had meant.
Connor turned his head and closed his eyes. How much longer could he continue to lie to himself?
To her.
That all he wanted was her friendship when in truth he wanted far more.
Far more than Abby seemed willing to give.
So he lived a lie.
It was better than not having Abby at all.
