Lester watched as Christine was escorted, head held high, from the ARC and accepted the applause as his due, all the time wondering just how stupid his team really were.

Dear God, did they really believe that a highly experienced military liaison of Christine’s calibre would be stupid enough to voice her true opinion of the minister in front of a man who’s loyalty was suspect? Who’d only changed sides under orders.

Lester knew he’d have to make it up to Christine, but at least they’d stopped any idea the minister might have had about replacing him as ARC Director.
