Jess Parker had never been so scared, sitting in the gloom with Lester's blood drying on her hands. Her breath caught, fearing Lester had died, leaving her alone in this nightmare, had her hand flying to his throat. She breathed again when she felt the faint pulse beneath her fingers.
A sound had Jess flinching, fearing a predator was coming, and swearing silently when Lester moaned as he was jostled. Something moved in the dark and her fingers clenched white-knuckled on the EMP in her hand.
Jess took a deep breath, she could do this. No, she would do this.
