The Dean was exasperated, Professor Cutter had – once again – needed a stand in for yet another class at the last moment. If it hadn't been for the large Home Office grant... which brought the Dean back to wondering what the hell the irascible professor could be doing for them that was so important.

He shook his head, no matter how curious he was, the Dean wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. He got the best of all worlds – money for the professor's services, a happy class and a lecturer who actually turned up to teach them.
