James holds his breath as he waits for her answer.

For her to break his heart or make it whole.

His hopes shrivel and fade as the silence stretches.

James' hand falls to his side and his head drops as he blinks back tears.

His heart feels as if it has been ripped from his chest and crushed.

“Oh, James.”

He looks up into her tear-filled eyes as she takes in the room and slowly nods.

A lone tear slides down his cheek as she takes his hand.

“I forgive you.”

James smiles in relief.

“This time.”
