Lester knew he'd have to make sacrifices for the good of the Nation, he had just never expected his family would be one of them. Oh, he could have told Lauren the truth, but he knew she wouldn't believe him. Sometimes he still had trouble believing it himself.
Of course, he could have left the project and possibly saved his marriage... but he couldn't. When he'd discovered the threat the anomalies posed, Lester had realised the only way to guarantee the safety of those he loved was to take the Directorship of the ARC.
Even if it meant losing them.
