“Matt?” Becker wrapped his arms around Matt when his husband continued to stare at the anomaly.

“I failed.” Matt shook his head. “I had one chance to save the world and...”

“I haven't given up. Lester hasn't.”

“It will happen slowly. Crops fail as weather patterns change, but its the future predators which are the death-knell for civilisation. The governments can't cope and the world descends into savagery. Survival of the fittest.”

“We'll find a way to stop it.” Becker promised, even if he had no idea how they would.

Burton's voice came from behind them. “I know how to.”
