Nick wrapped his arms around James, pulling his lover into a tight embrace. His heart still hammered in his chest and Nick could feel the answering pounding from James'.

“Fuck. That was too close. Don't do things like that, love.”

James' hands rubbed soothing circles on Nick's back. “Not my idea in the first place.” He nuzzled against Nick's neck, feeling his racing pulse. “I'm fine, Nick. Not a scratch on me.”

At that Nick pulled free, his expression worried as he quickly checked James for any injury. On finding none, Nick pulled his lover back against his chest and buried his face in the crook of James' neck.

“I thought I had lost you.”

James smiled softly as he pressed gentle kisses against Nick's bowed head. “I'm a government hatchet man, Nick, it will take more than a pissed-off dinosaur with a lousy sense of direction to kill me.”

Nick snorted before lifting his head to gaze into James' eyes. “I love you, James.”

As James stared into Nick's tear-bright eyes he felt his heart flutter and replied. “I love you too, Nick.”
