“Fuck!” Lyle eyed the icy bridge warily. “Are you sure?”
“No.” Lester nodded at the caged old man across the abyss. “He's the witch's first task.” He arched an eyebrow, “At least if we ever want to get home...”
“We should have kept the reindeer,” Lyle muttered.
Lester ignored him, walking carefully across to stand before the cage and shattering the lock.
“Thank you, James.” The bent figure held his hand out and a scythe shimmered into existence. “I must pass my powers to the New Year.” He held out his scythe to Lester. “Take this for your next task.”
