Lyle caught Lester when he stumbled. “Right, time for a break.”
“We need to keep going.”
“You need to rest.” Lyle eased Lester down, kneeling beside him to check his pulse.
“I'm fine, Jon.”
“Yes, James.”
Lester smiled, caressing Lyle's cheek. “You know,” he nodded at the clone staring at the butterfly on his outstretched finger. “I know they breath and have all the other signs of life, but until now, I've never really considered them to be people.”
“Neither does Helen.” Lyle tilted his head as he smiled up at Lester. “And smooth distraction, James, but not smooth enough.”
