A/N: For the P100 challenge 335: Vital Signs. Part 26 of my Strange Bedfellows drabble series and follows Escape?.


Lyle caught Lester when he stumbled. “Right, time for a break.”

“We need to keep going.”

“You need to rest.” Lyle eased Lester down, kneeling beside him to check his pulse.

“I'm fine, Jon.”

“Yes, James.”

Lester smiled, caressing Lyle's cheek. “You know,” he nodded at the clone staring at the butterfly on his outstretched finger. “I know they breath and have all the other signs of life, but until now, I've never really considered them to be people.”

“Neither does Helen.” Lyle tilted his head as he smiled up at Lester. “And smooth distraction, James, but not smooth enough.”

The clone is finding new friends inside and outside Helen's compound! Love his sense of wonder, and the contrast with Lester and Lyle being street-wise to each other's deviousness ;)

Very smooth distraction! The slow development of the clone is a nice counterpoint to the James/Jon relationship.
