Helen limped as she paced. She was injured, dirty and dishevelled with her clothing torn and stained, but she refused to rest until she'd checked the entire cell for a way out.

She leaned casually against the wall when she heard footsteps approach, her weight off her bad leg as she waited for her captors.

When the door creaked open to reveal Sir James Lester, Lieutenant Lyle on his heels, Helen's lip curled. “I see you haven't muzzled your pitbull.” She lifted her hand into view, showing off her discoloured fingers.

“Well...” Lester drawled. “The age of chivalry is dead.”
