Connor sighed. Just perfect, Jack had arrived. No, that was uncharitable. Abby should spend time with her family, not just trying to cheer him up.

Abby's cry of “You bastard” followed by a resounding slap had Connor dashing to her side to see what Jack-the-idiot had done now. He froze in disbelief when he found Abby glaring at a stunned and obviously just slapped James.

At his gasp, Abby stepped back and looked between them. “I'll leave you to talk. James, if you're hungry we've lots of leftovers.” She shot him a very pointed look. “Certain people weren't very hungry.”
