James breathed deeply as he entered the enclosure, feeling the tension of his long day drain from his shoulders as the rich, full aroma of the mammoth filled his senses.

He smiled when Monty rumbled a greeting, his trunk reaching out for him and wrapping around his waist, pulling James closer.

James leaned against Monty, snorting as he felt the mammoth's surprising dexterous trunk rummage in his pockets. "Fine. Have your apples."

He smiled as Monty rumbled happily, fully accepting him as a friend. It appeared that the way to anyone's heart, human or mammoth, truly was through their stomach.
