A/N: For the P100 challenge 250: Past Challenges. Set in my Under The Moonlight wolfverse and using the prompts: Introductions (1), Nick Cutter (66), Hungry (88) and Trust (46). Thanks go to the ever wonderful Fred for the beta.
First Meetings (Introductions – 1)
Sir James Lester hadn't been impressed by the people a junior civil servant had brought back from the Forest of Dean.
A young woman who looked far too punk for his tastes, and who thought she knew more than senior Home Office scientists.
The scruffy man was just as bad. Stubborn, opinionated, anti-government and bloody easy on the eyes.
James swore silently before entering the room. “Sir James Lester, I'll be in charge of coordinating our response to this... phenomena.”
“A cover-up, you mean.”
James sighed when the man's sexy Scottish accent sent a shiver of desire down his back.
Annoyance (Nick Cutter – 66)
James pinched the bridge of his nose as he read the latest anomaly report. Once again, Cutter had listened to and then totally disregarded instructions. The man was a maverick and James really didn't need one of those on top of his other problems. If the professor hadn't been the leading expert they had on the anomalies, James would have dealt with him. Permanently. But the man was the best they had and they needed him.
James swallowed and really wished he hadn't thought that. He refused to be attracted to the man, a man who so obviously hated him.
Need (Hungry – 88)
James fought his need to be with Cutter – Nick – with every ounce of willpower he had. He snarked at Nick and his team, seeking to drive Nick away, to keep him away from him. It was a losing battle, of course, James knew himself better than to think otherwise. But he had to try.
Nick had come up with his anomaly theory far too fast for James' peace of mind. Who knew what he'd realise face to face with a werewolf.
But still James found himself watching Nick, needing to protect him. No matter the cost to himself.
Acceptance (Trust – 46)
James held his breath when Nick pressed him against the wall, looked deep into his eyes and kissed him. He sighed against Nick's lips, feeling the man melt beneath his touch. He felt himself grow aroused by Nick's nearness and the answering hardness pressed against his thigh. He dropped his mouth to Nick's throat to nuzzle against him. His teeth nipped lightly as Nick tilted his head back, so trustingly baring his neck to a predator.
James knew he could rip Nick's throat out in a heartbeat, and fell in love all over again at the trust of his mate.
