Meeting (Introductions - 1)

James Lester scowled at the well-read memo before throwing it back onto his desk in disgust. Just what he least needed, a bloody outsider interfering in the ARC. Even worse, he had to report to the man. What was so bloody special about Philip Burton... apart from his bottomless wallet.

James sighed before rising and walking to the entrance, he would have to show willing and meet him. He could only hope Burton would be hands-off and let him get on with his job. He had people to find.

James held out his hand to the man waiting. “James Lester.”

****

Clashing (Betrayal – 7)

Philip crashed open the door to James' office. “Why?”

James looked up at him. Burton sounded... hurt.

“Couldn't you have just asked me to keep them?”

“Would you have?” James enquired softly. “You blamed them for you almost dying... instead of your own program.” He shook his head. “Which you implemented without any safeguards.”

Burton glared at James before turning and angrily strode away.

James sighed. OK, maybe that had not been the most diplomatic way to say it. But he couldn't let the mammoth die, not after it had saved his life. Bloody hell, he hated having to apologise...

****

Apologises (Chocolate – 20)

James sighed as he returned to his dark flat. He still hadn't apologised and, truthfully, he felt he deserved one too. He almost jumped when arms wrapped around his waist and a mouth nuzzled his neck.

“I'm sorry, James.” Philip murmured against his skin. “I read the report. That mammoth saved your life.”

“I'm sorry too, I should have explained.” James turned in his lover's grasp and kissed him.

Philip pulled free reluctantly, “I feel I should give him a thank you gift.”

James smirked, “I doubt he'd appreciate chocolate, apples on the other hand...”

“As many as he wants.”
