Lester watched from his office as the team laughed and joked together.

He so wanted to be part of it, but his job took that choice from him. He was their boss, he could not be their friend.

He couldn't afford to lose his, admittedly sometimes ignored, authority over them - people's lives were at risk, possibly even the world itself.

So, he just stood there, watching as they bonded into a family, knowing he would just have to accept that, no matter how much he wanted more or how much it hurt to be on the outside, looking in.

Probably the closest Lester will ever get to knowing how an officer in the military feels. Poor Lester though. Excellent description and a chilling reminder to how tough some jobs are!
