Stephen closed his eyes as Connor and Abby left his room. He knew Nick had not and would not visit him. Not when even Connor and Abby looked at him like he was scum and he knew he was. He had lost forever the friendship of a man he had always admired and, yes, Stephen could finally admit it to himself, loved. Never again would they spend time sharing meals and laughter at they discussed the latest paper and pointed out their errors. He had lost everything when he'd fallen for Helen's manipulations in her successful attempt to hurt Nick.
