James sighed softly. He stared into the flames and listened to the calls of unknown creatures that filled the night.

A slight smile appeared on his face as the little wolf cub butted against his hand, whining for attention.

His voice was soft as his eyes flickered to Abby's sleeping form. “Where do we go from here?” he murmured. “Every anomaly just leads to more danger.” His voice cracked. “I don't... I can't believe we will ever get back.”

He almost jumped when Abby replied. “We keep going, James. I promise you, I will get you back to your boys.”

I love the way that Abby is strong and keeps Lester focussed.

I think as she's been there before, Abby would manage to keep her hope. Plus she'd feel it was her responsibility to keep Lester going (field team compared to boss). Glad you liked it and thanks for reading.
