Abby was at her wit's end. Despite her best efforts she could feel James drifting further away from her and deeper into hopelessness. She couldn't think of anything else she could do to try and reach James and give him hope.

James' laughter had Abby spinning around. She couldn't believe her eyes as she watched James laugh and smile at the antics of the little wolf cub.

It looked as if the cub had succeeded where Abby had failed, and merely proved her belief in the almost magical ability of animals to reach the hearts of the hurt and despondent.
