Title: Fears In The Night
Author: knitekat
Word Count: 100 x 2
Characters: James Lester, Stephanie Lester (OC)
Rating: 12
Disclaimer: Primeval belongs to Impossible Pictures. Certainly not me. Writing for fun and will replace.
A/N: For P100 challenge 210: Fear. Part of my Dreams of Yesterday drabble series and, yes, they're gone angsty again. Thanks to the wonderful Fred for looking at them for me.
Stephanie woke in the middle of the night to an empty bed. She sighed. If James was working he'd be in so much trouble.
She found James staring out of the window and couldn't help the nagging worry that he had changed his mind about their child. That the euphoria James had expressed when she had told him the good news had turned to despair.
Stephanie had no idea what she'd do if James no longer wanted their child. But even as fear grew in her heart, Stephanie knew she had to know the answer. “James? What's wrong, love?”
James leaned back into Steff's arms as she hugged him. Could he admit what was bothering him? How would she react if... when he told her the truth? Would she hate him?
But James was no coward. He took a deep breath. “I'm scared.”
“Scared?”
“That I'll be a terrible father.”
James heard Steff's sigh and let his head drop dejectedly, waiting for her to scream at him. “Oh, James. I'd only be worried if you weren't worried.” She pressed a kiss against his neck. “You'll make a great father, James. I just know it.”
