Matt knew Abby meant well, but he just wished she'd leave him alone. He had a job to do and his father wouldn't want his grief to get in the way.

“Anderson.” Lester's summons was a welcome escape and Matt eagerly grabbed it with both hands. He soon doubted that choice when Lester murmured, “She won't give up, Anderson.”

“Lester?” Matt asked curiously.

Grief flickered across Lester's face for an instant. “She didn't with me, Matt.”

Matt nodded, he had to know. “Does it get better?”

Lester sighed heavily. “Good days and bad, Matt.”
