A/N: For the P100 challenge 199 Anomaly and part of my Dreams Of Yesterday drabble series and continues in Deflection and Understanding. Thanks to Fred for the beta.

James Lester was subdued. He was squirrelled away in his office and as far as Abby could tell, he had spent at least the last half-hour staring blankly at his computer monitor.

Scottish shouting dragged her attention away and she watched Nick stomp into the atrium, a profusely-apologising Connor trailing in his wake, cradling his skateboard.

She shook her head fondly at them, before turning back to watch Lester, expecting him to stroll out and cut both men to the quick with his biting sarcasm. Abby found her concern growing when even that racket didn't rouse Lester from his office.

Lester sighed softly as the strident tones of the annoying professor broke into his musings. He really should find out what was going on and what or who had ruffled the man's feathers this time.

He took a deep breath to regain his centre and then... just released it. He just couldn't face dealing with Cutter, not today. Someone else could take care of it, just this once.

Lester almost jumped at the soft knock on his door. He looked up sharply, blinking at the figure standing there.

“Lester?” Abby's voice was quiet and concerned. “Are you OK?”
