“Rainy season or not, this much rain will wash away our tracks and scent. If we were followed, they won’t be able to track us.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel safer?”
“I hoped I’d make you feel safer.”
“You do…”
“But?”
“We left the others. We ran…”
“I made you run. My only priority was to get you out and to safety.”
“Here?”
“We didn’t have much choice…. I’m sure the others are fine.”
“Have you developed Lyle’s thumbs or are you just trying to console me?”
“Neither. We’ve all survived worse.”
