A/N: For P100 prompt 861: Explorers. Set in my Cry Wolf ‘verse. Somewhat dark, I think my muse still thinks it is Halloween.
My people were explorers long before we’d become… watchers? No, not when we interfered. Maybe gamekeeper came closest? Not that either really fitted my role in overseeing operations on the mammals' world.
I recalled learning about those who’d stepped through the portals and witnessed so many wonders. My claws tapped as I remembered the dark tales of worlds – times – turned to dust and ruin. That was why we’d turned away from exploration and instead began to prevent such disasters, even if it meant destroying the dominant life on a world.
I hoped to prevent that becoming necessary on this world.
