I like the way Connor manages to stop and analyze the situation despite his panicked state. Still, I can see why he'd be scared, even though he suspects that Lester might have left the door open on purpose. BTW, I think it's sweet that Lester shows up to talk to Connor and then tells him to "breathe" when he sees how agitated he is.
