It had been a long day dealing with the fallout of Cutter’s latest meeting with the Firm.

All I’d managed to eat was half a bar of chocolate, along with far too many coffees, as I’d fielded call after irate call from the minister demanding answers.

I reached for my coffee, only for Ms Wickes to whip it out of reach and replace it with a freshly brewed cup. I eyed it suspiciously, knowing it was likely to be decaf, but it was hot and that was welcome.

Even more welcome was the fresh baked roll and bowl of soup.
