A/N: For P100 prompt 777: Ancestors. Idk. Set in my Cry Wolf ‘verse.
I waited for almost everyone to leave before heading for the menagerie. I heard the unease as I entered – a predator on the prowl – searching for the latest <i>guest</i> my team had failed to repatriate.
It was only chicken-sized but it still hissed at me, feathered arms raised in threat as its killing claw tapped.
I stared at it, wondering if this was how humans felt when they visited zoos to stare at the monkeys.
Not that this creature was an ancestor to my people, a different timeline for one thing, but… if events had gone differently in this world.
If anyone is wondering, their latest guest is a <i>Hesperornithoides</i>
