Connor curled his hands protectively around his hog dog, ketchup dripping from his fingers.
“Are you worried Shadow will pinch it?” Lyle asked, taking a large bite from his own.
“He took my ice lolly,” Connor protested.
Lyle shook his head and put his own half-eaten hot dog, topped with bacon, cheese, scrambled egg and lashings of Sriracha, down by Shadow’s nose. He grinned when Shadow wrinkled his nose and pulled his head back. “Do you really think any dog of Lester’s would lower himself to eat a hot dog?”
“Well,” Connor said, still eyeing Shadow. “Not your half-eaten one.”
