Stephen knocked on Nic… Cutter’s door, knowing this would be it. One way or the other. Things couldn’t go on the way they had, someone would be hurt… or killed and Stephen wouldn’t, couldn’t have that on his conscience.

“What?”

“I just want to talk, to…” But how could he explain what he’d done?

“You should have tried that eight bloody years ago.”

Stephen nodded. “I know, I didn’t want to lose a friend… but I have anyway, haven’t I.” He gave a bone weary sigh before adding, “I quit! I’ll see Lester tomorrow.”

“Stephen!”

“What more do you want?”
